You are bidding on a Peavey Valverb tube reverb unit. This is an all tube, old school outboard
spring reverb unit with tremolo, in a rack mount package. The unit is complete, fully tested and
operational. The condition is excellent. The chrome face is immaculate. This has been kept in a smoke free studio,
and has never been taken out to gigs. There
are some small paint scratches on the top and bottom of the unit. These
are typical for rack units, and are completely concealed when rack
mounted. The Valverb is US built for US operation - 120V only.
This can make any amp sound like a blackface Fender twin. But,
it can also go well beyond, and provide lush, drippy subterranean effects. If you want the Dick Dale sound, this is your
reverb unit. The Valberb includes a tone section, which is
useful when connected via a post-eq effect loop, and has both an input driver and
master (gain make up) stage. Both the input driver and master have enough
headroom to provide an additional gain stage to any amplifier. The tremolo section operates similarly to
Fender types, with speed and intensity controls.
So where does this one stand in the grand pantheon of vintage
style reverb units? I would say near the
top for quality, and somewhere in the middle for price. Harmony Central has a bunch of reviews:
I read these, and they pretty much agree with my
impressions. The quality and
capabilities of the reverb effect are as good as the vintage units, and the
high end reproductions of same. When you
engage the tremolo, there is a gain penalty.
This is an issue with most tremolo units, and not an insurmountable
problem. To switch this effect in, you
will want to have a way of boosting your gain at the same time. All in
all, if you want get that big outboard reverb sound at a gig, this unit can
provide it, and at a cost that won’t make you think twice before taking it out
to the club. The tubes used are all commonly available
